BRIAN BEAUFORT “BUCK” SCOTT Buck passed in his 94th year at The Teddington Retirement Home in Toronto on June 22, 2021. A special thanks to the wonderful staff there. He was predeceased by Jean, his beloved wife of 64 year and his older brother, Nathaniel (Betty). He leaves behind his younger sister, Patricia (Derek); two sons, Gregory (Ellen) and Duncan (Vicki); and four much loved and successful grandchildren, Samantha, Abigail, Alexandra, and Robert. Buck was born into a farming life in Aldershot, Ontario at the outset of the Depression. He enjoyed farming and intended to make a career of it but was caught in a barn fire at 17 and had to jump to safety leading to three operations and lifelong back problems. Forced to reinvent himself he moved to Toronto, met Jean, and together they began a very successful insurance career. Buck was proud of pioneering term life insurance in Ontario and later helping usher in the brokerage system that allowed him to serve his customers best. Buck’s passions were skiing, sailing, and his grandchildren. He was very proud of his role in helping found the Craigleith Ski Club and eventually persuaded Jean to retire to Collingwood where he skied until 86. He was probably happiest at big family gatherings at the family cottage he built from the ground up in Haliburton. Buck remained active in Collingwood, riding his bike around town every day, weather permitting, until 92. He had long since traded in his bicycle for a tricycle after his third or fourth fall and Jean finally put her foot down. Buck touched a great many people, was widely known for his great stories and infectious laughter. He will be sadly missed by us all. A celebration of Buck’s life will be held in Collingwood in the fall when with luck Covid-19 restrictions have eased. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital.
